Layered Light
Born from Unrelenting Refinement
Integrating the innovative "OptiFlow Array™" with a compact 12 mm "Sou reflector" demands sub-millimeter prevision and the production of over 60 physical prototypes. This relentless dedication has yielded a stunning asymmetric light distribution with a minimal form. By directing illumination precisely where it is needed, the design eliminates energy waste, embodying a sincere commitment to environmental responsibility. The layered illumination creates a sense of deep serenity and adds dimension to any space.
Feature 01
Beautiful gradation without scallops issue
This product also allows you to eliminate the concern of scalloping issues with the help of our innovative "OptiFlow Array™" technology. Our proprietary design features a continuous, closely packed lens pattern that eliminates dark stripes that often occur with high-power LED glazing at tight angles. Even in applications where the fixture is placed close to the wall, scalloping is virtually eliminated. Additionally, the anti-glare design reduces glare, providing a safer user experience in environments where the light source is easily visible.
Feature 02
Gently illuminates nearby and distant areas
Light that is projected over long distance and at a narrow beam angle often causes nearby areas to appear dimmer. Especially with cove lighting, having a certain level of brightness near the fixture will enhance the gradation of light toward the wall and add richer texture to it.

To achieve this, we developed a compact, distinctive reflector with a height of just about 31 mm including the fixture itself. This innovative design subtly redirects some of the light that would normally shine straight up at a 25° angle toward the wall.

The result is a gentle pool of light close to the fixture, paired with an elegant, asymmetrical gradation of brightness that extends outward. This creates a more natural, inviting atmosphere with a seamless transition from nearby to distant areas.
Feature 03
Efficient light distribution control for a stunning grazing without glare
The distinctive reflector integrated into the KIWA mono-sou™ exemplifies the dark sky concept, which is a sustainable design approach aimed at reducing light pollution, glare, and energy waste. The reflector precisely directs light onto intended surfaces, such as ceilings or walls, minimizing light spill and reducing waste. By maximizing light distribution efficiency and making full use of the emitted illumination, it lessens the negative impact on both people and the environment

Where It Begins
"We are forced to abandon the beauty of indirect lighting due to environmental energy restrictions." This earnest concern from a leading designer was the catalyst for our development.

Our mission was to harmonize two seemingly conflicting ideals: a deep commitment to environmental sustainability through ultra-low power consumption, and the pursuit of evocative beauty of light that brings a narrative to a space.
Typically, using a narrow-beam lens to project light over long distances leaves the area immediately surrounding the fixture in darkness. However, in cornice lighting, a soft presence of light near the source is vital. This gentle illumination creates a smooth, sophisticated gradation along the wall, profoundly enriching the room's texture.

To minimize wasted glare while gently illuminating the foreground and allowing light to extend effortlessly into the distance—achieving these conflicting elements within a single luminaire became the core purpose of the "sou Reflector," featured in the KIWA mono-sou.
The Engineering Challenge: Precision in a 17mm Profile
The development was a rigorous technical challenge: how to extract the ideal light from a miniature fixture only 17mm wide. The task was to take a portion of the 25° beam, which naturally tends to travel straight upward, and gently direct it toward the wall. While the concept is simple, the path to achieving a flawless, asymmetrical light distribution was arduous.
Through sub-millimeter adjustments and over 60 iterations of 3D-printed prototypes, we engaged in a "quiet dialogue" with the material until the technical solution and design ideal perfectly converged.
The result is a distinctive, ultra-slim reflector with a height of just 12.5mm. When paired with the luminaire body, the total height is a mere 31mm. This was a non-negotiable requirement, as spaces with low ceilings or eye-level installations—such as sofa walls—offer extremely limited room for concealment. Maintaining a profile under 35mm was essential.
The "Splitter": A Minimalist Solution for a Soft Glow
The "sou Reflector" incorporates a specialized component known as the "Splitter," designed to divide and diffuse light. Despite its minimalist form, stripped of all unnecessary structure, the Splitter’s internal diffusion effect successfully creates a soft "pool of light" at the fixture's base.

By delivering light precisely where it is needed while eliminating spill light to protect the dark sky, this meticulous optical design stands as our sincere response to environmental responsibility.

As these overlapping "Layers of Light" (sou) bring profound silence and depth to a space, Luci remains committed to being a partner that runs alongside designers, continuously stimulating their intellectual curiosity.

Product Story
Layers of Light.
Ultra-low power consumption starting from 1.8W/m, paired with soft layers of light crafted
by the proprietary "sou Reflector."
An unparalleled light gradation rises beautifully from the mounting surface,
bringing profound emotion and depth to any space.
Building upon the overwhelming energy efficiency and light distribution control achieved with the development of KIWA mono, KIWA mono - sou was born from a pursuit of even more evocative lighting expressions. The challenge was to resolve an optical paradox: how to house both a sharp, distant-reaching "grazing light" and a gentle, proximal "ambient glow" within a single, miniature body.

To meet this challenge, KIWA mono - sou found the optimal solution by integrating the uniquely developed "sou Reflector" within its ultra-compact profile. This reflector delicately guides a portion of the highly directional, nano-controlled light toward the wall, creating a seamless gradation that gracefully extends from the installation point.
By blending the "Linear Beauty" that extends into the distance with the "Layered Beauty (sou)" that envelops the foreground, this lighting design introduces a new expressive language for architects and designers—adding a serene narrative to any space, even under the strictest environmental constraints.
